Iphicrate was formed around 1994/1995 under the leadership of Philippe Delepierre and Julien Divert.
Soon the idea of practicing a simple and direct brutal black metal (metal psychotic War) is imposed.

After forming a line-up consisting of Philippe (drums), Manu (bass), Mad (vocals), Frank (vocals) and Julien (guitar), a first demo entitled "As useless as god" is recorded in late 1995 , live in the MDO rehearsal room. Some concerts were made.
This demo, to our surprise, receives a great welcome in the underground scene and some copies are sold and trade in France and Europe.

Meanwhile Franck left the band and Mad retains the post of appointed singer. A 2nd guitarist, David, is recruited.
The songs became more elaborate and better established.
A 2nd demo named "World" is recorded in early 1997 with initially a live song, but this song was lost!

Soon after, Philip left the band and Francois / Fog replace him as the drummer in order to continue this logic to improve our music and the general level.

Then a third demo named "Renaissance" is released a few months later, but the promotion will not be the most assiduous.
Some gigs are done, mostly festivals of music, where corpse paint and alcohol flows freely!

Rehearsals continue without Mad as he doesn’t give news anymore, it was concluded he had left the group.
The musical direction is refined. the three brand new songs are much more mature, epic, fast, melodic and technical.
The musical universe of Iphicrate turns to what will be called Norman Black Metal kind!

Unfortunately Iphicrates stops around 1997/1998 and the new titles remained in the shadows until now.
After various trouble with David, the only 2 remaining members were Fog and Dasap (Julien). The TRUE Iphicrate ends.
We will learn a long period after we split, that other guitarist David, had stolen the logo,
the name of Iphicrate and many part of the new songs, to record a demo released in 1998!

In front of this act of robbery and vandalism, we could not hide anymore and do nothing!
So it must be said that this demo, released in 1998, is not Iphicrate and will never be legitimate!
Fog and Dasap are the last representatives of Iphicrate and nobody else.

2016 is the 20th anniversary of the first demo “As useless as God”, and 20 years later, Fog and Dasap, still working together, decided to do a reprint of demos and rehearsals,
and offered you a new recording of their well-known track, "As useless as god" as well as some new songs.
Prepare for the Norman invasion, we are the true son of northern darkness!
